All children use a plastic lunch box thus eliminating the use of tin foil and cling film.

Fruit skins and cores, pencil pairings and tea-bags are placed in class compost bins. Two children oversee emptying bins into school composter at 3pm each day.

We shred a lot of waste paper and the children, neighbours, grandparents etc. use the shredded paper to bed certain pets and animals.

We collect old toothbrushes, soak them in Domestos (for sterilization) and use them for spatter painting.

Used batteries, mobile-phones and bottle corks are collected and sent for recycling.

Litter picking rotas are in place also.

  • First Class pick all the litter after 11 o’clock break.
  • Second Class are responsible for litter picking after lunch break.
  • Two senior boys oversee picking litter and emptying bins into AES red and green bins at 3pm.

During Laois Clean Up week we work with the local Tidy Towns Committee to pick litter in the village.
