On November 5th, Trudy visited our 2 classrooms to explain what life was like for a child in the 1950's and how it compares to life for a child nowadays.
Trudy helped the children put together their family and community story, in particular looking at life in post war Ireland when most of their grandparents and great grandparents were their age. We explored what was happening locally, nationally and internationally at this time. We looked at how our village and school evolved and what school life was like in times gone past.
Trudy included a show and tell with artefacts relating to these times e.g: children’s books and stories their grandparents and great grandparents may have read; food they may have eaten; books; music they listened to and games they may have played. We looked at Television shows such as 'Bill and Ben' and 'Lassie'. The children had fun using their imagination playing these games. We finished up the visit making playdough using very simple ingredients.
We hope that the children left school full of interesting news to tell and chatted about how life has changed.
