We are absolutely thrilled to share that our team of 5th and 6th class students has won an award on our very first outing at the LAOIS VEX Robotics Championship! Over the past few months, our dedicated team has been hard at work after school, building our robot and designing the field of play. On the big day, they truly excelled, winning the series of games (six games in total) with the highest average score, making everyone proud!
In addition to this fantastic achievement, we were also awarded the title of "Teamwork Champions," alongside Paddock School, for the brilliant collaboration we exhibited. The joint practice sessions held over the last fortnight between both schools were invaluable, leading to our selection as the three schools that will represent Laois at the All-Ireland Championship on 27th February in Cork!
A total of 18 teams from 15 different primary schools participated in the championship, showcasing a mix of seasoned competitors and newcomers, like us. Every year, the competition presents fresh challenges, keeping both students and teachers engaged.
The VEX IQ programme, hosted by Laois County Council, aims to enhance digital skills and foster interest in STEM subjects. Our team built our Hero Bot, ‘Swish’, from a VEX IQ kit, enabling students to deepen their knowledge in robotics, engineering, and coding.
