On Wednesday, the 12th of March, we were thrilled to welcome Criodán from Midlands Science to our school for an engaging workshop focused on engineering and wind energy. The session took place in the senior room and began with an eye-opening presentation. Criodán did a fantastic job explaining the principles of wind energy and how engineering plays a crucial role in harnessing it.
Following the presentation, we split into groups for our first challenge: building a wind turbine. This task was both fun and challenging, but it really helped us understand the inner workings of a wind turbine. It was fascinating to see how the principles discussed in the presentation came to life as we assembled our models.
Next, we moved on to our second challenge, which was to create a catapult using lollipop sticks, elastic bands, and a wooden spoon. This task encouraged us to think critically and make adjustments to improve our designs. It was great to see everyone collaborating and testing their creations in real-time.
Overall, it was a fun and informative day filled with hands-on learning. A huge thank you to Criodán and Midlands Science for making it such a memorable experience!
