On Tuesday, December 10th, Una Halpin from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) visited our school to conduct an engaging workshop on the theme of Energy. As we strive to achieve our next green flag, the workshop provided an invaluable opportunity to explore the origins of energy. Through a story chain using props, students illustrated the energy process, emphasising the importance of energy conservation. Interactive games further enhanced their understanding of energy concepts.
Students experimented with a portable solar panel mat and a fan, demonstrating how solar energy operates. We also examined light measurement in the classroom and discussed the critical role of the sun in providing heat and light for survival. The session included a discussion on fossil fuels and hands-on activities where pupils constructed circuits to illustrate electric flow.
In a collaborative effort, we divided into five groups to create land yachts, tested by Una for efficiency. This workshop was both educational and enjoyable, reinforcing our commitment to attaining our next Green flag.
