On 17th June, Rushall NS held its eagerly anticipated annual BBQ and Sports Day, and it was a wonderful day from start to finish. Best of all, the sun stayed with us for the entire day, which made the occasion feel even more special.
The day got off to a lively start with a scavenger hunt for the Junior Room. Meanwhile, the Senior Room had been busy designing a variety of obstacle courses to challenge the younger pupils. After break, the Junior Room rose to the challenge and completed the courses with great enthusiasm. By then, a hearty appetite had certainly been worked up by all!
Mr Monaghan donned his apron and got to work preparing and cooking the BBQ meat. The burgers, hot dogs and chicken skewers were cooked to perfection and enjoyed by everyone. The hot food was made even tastier by the plentiful produce from the Teach Glas. Carrots, courgettes, cooked onions, scallions and cucumber found their way onto everyone’s plate, adding fresh colour and flavour to the meal.
Once the food had disappeared, it was time to head back to the many sports activities that had been planned. The usual favourites, such as the egg and spoon race, sack race, sprints and relays, all took place in the glorious sunshine. There was plenty of laughter, excitement and friendly competition throughout the afternoon.
The pupils were also not about to miss the chance to get all the staff members onto the pitch for the Pupils v Staff soccer match. Although it sometimes seemed as though each staff member was swarmed by pupils, everyone played their part. In the end, the pupils claimed a well-deserved 6-5 victory. It was a great contest and a match that will be remembered fondly by all in the months ahead.
