Last week, we were very lucky to have Craig Benton, "The Worm Expert", come and visit our school and help us set up our brand new WORMERY!
We learned so much from Craig about worms, composting and how to take care of our new school pets!! We are enjoying using our new wormery to combat our food waste. We all got the chance to hold our new pets if we wanted to, and when we finally made the worm bed inside our wormery, we released about 1kg of worms into their new home. We learned that recycling food is an important action to address climate change and setting up the wormery has helped us achieve our 6th Green Flag.
The Composting for Schools Pilot is funded by Laois County Council and we received the wormery, some garden tools and our brown composting bins to help us collect the food for our worms.
